15 minutes envelope pillow case DIY

Después de coser unos cuantos de estos para mi casita, he decidido compartir un tutorial para que veais lo fáciles que son estos cojines ¡y sin botones ni cremalleras!. Este es el proyecto perfecto para las que estáis muy ocupadas y no tenéis tiempo ni paciencia para cosas más complicadas. Además, con unas cuantas telas bonitas es fácil darle un cambio al salón o a un dormitorio sin tener que hacer grandes inversiones en muebles u otros accesorios.
After sewing a few of these for my home, I decided to share a tutorial so you can see how easy these pillow cases are ¡and without buttons or zippers!. This is the perfect project for those of you who are very busy and have no time or patience for more complicated stuff. You only need some nice fabric and you will easily add a twist to a bedroom or living room without big investments in furniture or other accessories.

lavender sachets DIY phototutorial

El fin de semana pasado recogí un enorme ramo de espliego en el monte y lo he tenido toda la semana secando. Después de separar las flores con más paciencia de la que tengo, he preparado estos saquitos para meter en los cajones y armarios. No sé si de verdad ahuyentarán a las polillas, pero de lo que sí estoy segura es de que la ropa olerá súper bien...¡ya estoy preparada para el cambio de estación!
Last weekend, I picked a huge lavender bouquet in the countryside and I let it drying for a week. After removing the flowers with more patience than I have, I have prepared these little sachets to put in the drawers and wardrobes. I don´t know if it will really keep moths away, but what I am sure of is that the clothes smell really well ... Ready for the change of season!

pant skirt to boyfriend shorts PHOTOTUTORIAL

Hace días que tenía pendiente hacer algo con esta falda pantalón. La tengo hace mil años, y no me gustaba ya la forma, así que le he dado el cambio que necesitaba...unos shorts estilo boyfriend!
I had this in mind for days now, I had to do something with this pant skirt. I have had it for ages, and I didn´t like it anymore, so I gave it the change it was needing... boyfriend shorts!

He utilizado otros shorts que tenía como referencia y he marcado el largo con un jaboncillo. He añadido dos marcas más a tres y seis centímetros, para las vueltas del bajo.
I´ve used another shorts I had to mark the length. I´ve added another mark three cm and the last one, six cm from the first mark, so I could do the hem.

He cortado las patas del pantalón por la marca más baja y les he dado la vuelta.
I´ve cut the pants legs where the lower mark wass and then, I´ve turn the pants inside out.

Como eran extra-anchos, he tenido que estrecharlos, pero tranquis más fácil de lo que parece. Te los pruebas del revés y vas marcando con alfileres por la parte interior por donde quieres que queden. Luego, los coses, también del revés, siguiendo las marcas.

As the pant skirt was extra-wide, I had to narrow it, but no worries, it´s easier than it seems. You try them on (inside out) and pin them to fit. Then, you need to sew the new seam following the pins line.

Corta lo que sobra y remata con una costura en zig-zag. Dales la vuelta de nuevo.
Now, cut the excess of fabric and finish off with zigzag stitch. Turn the pants inside out again.

El último paso es hacer un dobladillo hacia afuera. Para ello, se dobla el bajo dos veces siguiendo las marcas que habías hecho al principio (3 y 6cm). Cose un par de puntadas ocultas en los laterales para asegurar el bajo.
The last step is doing the hem. Just fold the pant legs twice, following the marks you did at the begining (3 and 6cm). Sew a couple of hidden stitches to the sides to secure the hem.

Y pantalones nuevos para ir a patinar! ¿Fácil, no? Espero que hayas empezado bien la semana...

sewing evenings...granny gown to minidress

Parece que mayo va a ser el mes de las abuelas, en vez de el mes de las flores...después de las croquetas de mi abuela, hoy llega...¡la bata! . Pues sí, he decidido que ya era hora de dar uso a esta bata, pero no en su formato original, claro. Una cosa es que me guste reciclar ropa vintage (o más vieja que la polka, jaja) y otra, aparentar setenta. En un par de tijeretazos y quince minutos frente a mi Sigma, vestido nuevo para este veranito. Esto de las poses no es lo mío, lo sé...pero ¿y lo que se rieron el otro día en el parque? ;)
It seems that May will be the month of grandmothers, rather than the month of flowers ... after my grandma´s croquettes, now comes ... the gown! . Yes, I have decided that it was time to use this gown, but not in its original format, of course...I like to recycle vintage clothing, but not looking like a seventy years old lady. A couple of cuts and fifteen minutes in front of my Sigma, and I got a new dress for this summer. Portraits are not my thing, I know ...but it was hilariuos watching people laughing at us in the park? ;)

Hace poco estuve en un taller de shibori, impartido por Marian, de Artelar (hola, Marian!). Fue una experiencia muy divertida y enriquecedora, aunque reconozco que yo necesito más paciencia para trabajar estas técnicas ;) No me había planteado hablar sobre el tema en el blog hasta que me he dado cuenta de la cantidad de prendas tye-die que se ven este año en las tiendas. El tye-die no es más que el nombre que se da a algunas de estas técnicas de shibori en Occidente.

I recently attended a shibori workshop, taught by Marian, from Artelar (hi, Marian!). It was very fun and rewarding, although I have to say that I need more patience to work on these techniques;) I wasn´t taking about it here in the blog until I realized there are lots of tye-die clothes in the stores this season. Tye-die is just the name given to some of these shibori techniques in Western countries.

El shibori es una técnica japonesa utilizada para teñir tejidos que se conoce desde el siglo VIII.  Consiste en diseñar un patrón o estampado a base de bloquear o reservar partes de la tela mediante costuras, dobleces, compresión...etc. De esta forma, cuando se sumerge el tejido en el tinte, este no puede llegar a las zonas bloqueadas y podemos obtener diseños tan espectaculares como los de los tradicionales kimonos.

Shibori is a japanese technique used for fabric dyeing that is known since 8th century. It involves the design of a pattern by blocking or reserving parts of the fabric by stitching, folding, compressing... etc.. Thus, when the fabric is dipped in the dye, this can not reach the blocked areas and we can get such spectacular designs as those in traditional kimonos.

En el taller de shibori no aspirábamos a tanto, pero sí aprendimos algunas de las técnicas más comunes y sus nombres impronunciables: Tegumo, Orinui, Mokumenui, Makinui, Makiage, Koboushi, Itajame, Tesuji... y pasamos un par de tardes muy entretenidas. Aquí os enseño algunas de las muestras que hice.

We didn´t expected that much from the shibori workshop, but we learned some of the most common techniques and their unpronounceable names: Tegumo, Orinui, Mokumenui, Makinui, Makiage, Koboushi, Itajame, Tesuji... and we spent a couple of quite busy evenings. I show you here some of

I only had to have a look around the internet to find hundreds of ideas on how to apply what we learned at the workshop and give a boho touch to our home...

inspired by...stripes!

Recientemente he descubierto que tengo una especie de "obsesión" por ciertos estampados, sobre todo en lo que a la ropa se refiere. El sábado fui a comprar unas telas para los proyectos de los que os hablaba en el post anterior, y me di cuenta de que las rayas están sin duda en el número uno de mi "Top 3" .

I ´ve recently discovered I´ve got kind of an obsession with certain patterns, specially clothing related. Last saturday, I was shopping for fabric for the projects I showed you in a previous post, and I realized that stripes are number one in my "Top 3".

Lo mejor de todo es que siempre están de moda, y si no, mirad qué coincidencia...

And the best part is that stripes are always IN, check this out...

El vestido que llevo en la foto era en realidad un camisón que mi tío abuelo trajo como regalo de Argentina ¡hace unos treinta años!. En su día era largo, casi hasta el tobillo, así que lo acorté para llevarlo como vestido playero en vacaciones. La foto es de mi hermano, que es un fotógrafo con mucho talento. The dress I´m wearing in the photo was actually a nightgown that my great-uncle brought as a gift from Argentina thirty years ago!. It was an ankle length nightgown, so I cut it out to wear it as sundress on my summer holidays. The photo was made ​​by my brother, who is a very talented photographer. No, no es que esté esperando un bebé, al menos no uno mío...pero Abril y Mayo prometen ser unos meses llenos de emociones. Unas cuantas familiares y amigas están a punto de dar a luz a sus preciosos retoños...hasta 7! Con tantos bebés a punto de llegar, mi instinto maternal aún no se ha despertado, pero sí mi vena creativa...Tengo esperando una pila de pequeños bodies para decorar y telas suaves para hacer mantitas. (Estos ya tienen pequeñas dueñas)

No, not that I'm expecting a baby, at least not one of mine... but it seems April and May will be full of emotions. A few relatives and friends are about to give birth to their beloved little ones... up to 7! With so many babies about to arrive, my maternal instinct is not awakening yet, but my creative side ... There´s a stack of tiny onesies waiting to be decorated and some soft fabrics for sewing blankets. (These onesies already are with their little owners)
