instavacaciones / instavacation

Besos, Cristina
All good things must come to an end, and my vacation was not an exception. After one week I still don´t get used to the back-to-school-thing. We had a bit of everything: beach, countryside and even a city break.
Those two days in Porto made me wish to go back to Portugal for a tour even more...how was your summer?

a coger cerezas! / let´s go cherry picking!

A couple of weekends ago I went cherry picking for the first time in my life. I cannot say whether such work is hard or not, considering I was there only for two hours, I spent this time with good friends and in three cherries picked, I ate one...ahah! Finally, a few boxes full of these little sweet treats  became homemade jam in my mom´s hands. I do not have the recipe yet but I can tell you that was good. Also, I couldn´t help myself and I made some cherry coulis. I will share the recipe here on the blog soon, so stay tuned!

retazos del fin de semana / pieces of my weekend

I think I´m going back to my childhood lately...and I love it. It´s happening often lately, I guess because of my recent visits to the little countryside village where I spent part of my life, surrounded by people I love. Some of them are not with us anymore, like my grandfather, one of those serious people of few words but with a huge heart. From that look in his eyes he could make you understand. Others are still there, loud and happy and full of energy, teaching and caring for their kids today like they did with us once. Time flies and we are no longer children, so whenever life gives me the opportunity to remember those days, I squeeze and enjoy the moment, the same way I did when summer holidays started and my parents announced "Get ready, Cristina, let´s go to our village".

Shops are full of beautiful ornaments and Christmas decoration, I know, but giving your own touch to your home is funnier, isn´t it? Four years ago, when I bought my first Christmas tree, I hand stitched all the ornaments myself. Year after year, I´ve been adding more handmade decoration. Since I didn´t have that much time this year, I went for these super-easy wreaths. You only need a couple of foam hoops, a piece of felt and some decorative knick knack and...voilá!

Feliz semana.
Sometimes we need to stop for a moment, keep calm, breath deeply and enjoy simple things around. Happy week.

retaking old projects

It might be because the fall is already here, or maybe because I have forgotten the tendinitis that I made myself on the first try ... either way, I picked up again a project that I started two years ago. I had never crocheted before, but I saw a few tutorials on YouTube and I decided to give it a try. And, for those of you who don´t know me, sometimes I´m a bit dumb, so I had the great idea to start with something easy, you know... a blanket! Fifty granny squares later I had a tendinitis and I could barely move my hand...well done, Cristina! This week I have decided that it is not too late to pick it up, so after dinner, while wathcing movies, it is time to crochet! I just hate leaving things halfway.

sunday breakfast! super-easy english scones

At last an entire morning for baking, drinking coffee, relaxing ... and blogging! And since it's Sunday, I´ve prepared a little special breakfast, so I've baked some English scones with raisins. They are very easy to make and does not have sugar, so there is no excuse not to try. I have compensated for the lack of sugar filling them with dulce de leche and homemade kiwi jam...haha (thanks, Mom, it's so good!).

Ingredientes / Ingredients:
250g harina integral / 250g whole wheat flour
150ml leche / 150ml milk
40g mantequilla /40g butter
15g levadura (1 sobre) / 15g yeast
1 pizca de sal / a pinch of salt
un puñado de pasas / a handful of raisins
1 huevo / 1 egg

Y así se hacen / And here is how to...

Preheat the oven at 200 º C. In a large bowl, mix the sifted flour, baking powder and salt. Add the butter, softened and diced, and mix it all by hand. Add the milk and then continue mixing. Do not worry if at first it is very sticky, as you work the dough it gets uniform. Add the raisins and mix (by hand). When the dough is smooth, make small balls (about 5cm) and place them on a sheet of parchment paper placed on a baking pan. Paint the balls with beaten egg and bake them at 180ºC for about 20 minutes or until the scones are golden ... and you are done!
Feliz domingo y gracias por pasarte! Happy sunday and thanks for reading!
